Passports, Prosecco, and Pink Sands

4 days in Bermuda

Bermuda was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. It was truly the easiest travel I have ever experienced. The total flight time is about 1.5 hour from Philadelphia… This shocked me too. Seriously, you can be in paradise by noon. The only hitch is that Bermuda is seasonal. Because it is off the coast of the Carolinas, the best time to visit is between April and November. Our trip was in June and the temperatures were great. We did have some rain, but we rolled with it.

Day 1

Check into the St. Regis, enjoy the hotel

Upon arrival, customs was a breeze. The airport is small and clean. Really a nice experience. Taxis were lined up an ready outside the doors. We grabbed a cab to our hotel. Every taxi driver in Bermuda was so nice and knowledgeable. They seemed to love sharing little tips about the island and giving little lessons about the things we passed along the way. We found the taxi system to be the best way to get around, but will talk more about that later.

We stayed at the St. Regis Bermuda. This is the only Marriott affiliated hotel on the island, which allowed us to use points to book part of our stay. The hotel was lovely, the beach was beautiful, the service was great. But it was far from everything. Next time we visit, I would opt to be a bit more centrally located. I would not recommend this hotel for traveling with kids, but it would be great for a quite couples getaway.

We immediately hit the beach before our room was ready. And we had to try Bermuda’s signature drink, the rum swizzle.

Day 2-

Exploration day

We decided to take this day to really explore the island. We rented a Twizzy, which is a little electric car. You rent it on an app and drop it off in various charging points across the Island. This gave us the flexibility to explore on our own. We picked up our Twizzy in St. George and then drove to Uncle Mel’s Spicy Dicy.

I read that we needed to try the fish sandwich. We ordered our fish sandwich the classic way.. On raisin bread, with Cole slaw.. sounds weird, right? This place is a little tough to find, but worth the effort. We grabbed our sandwich to go and headed to the famous Horseshoe Bay Beach.

This is Bermuda’s quintessential pink sand beach. There are beach chairs, bathrooms, and a little spot for food and drinks. We decided to walk past everyone and find our own little cove. This was the perfect spot to enjoy our INCREDIBLE fish sandwich. We were able to share one sandwich and had leftovers to spare.

After some time at Horseshoe Bay, we drove to the next beach, Warwick Bay. This is a long and wide beach. We took a walk here and also found a cute little spot called Johnson’s Cove. It was starting to get a little rainy, so we weren’t here long, but would definitely come here for another beach day.

We hopped in the Twizzy and headed to the Grotto Bay Beach Club for our scheduled couples massage inside a cave! This place was incredible! Our massage was on a floating platform on the water inside of the cave… what an experience! Grotto Bay Beach Club is a great hotel for families. It is located in a calm and shallow bay for swimming and water sports. They also have a pool.

After our massages we hopped back in the Twizzy, in the pouring rain.. This added to the adventure, as the Twizzy has no windows. It was a sight. We drove to the Loren at Pink Beach, where we had dinner reservations. There was a Twizzy drop off spot here. Our meal at this hotel was our favorite of the week. The views were gorgeous, even in the rain, and the meal was delicious. We took a tour of the hotel and felt it might be a nice place to stay next time. We took a taxi back to our hotel. This was quite the day!

Day 3

Relax at the hotel, Snorkel at Tobacco Bay, Dinner in Hamilton

We decided on less traveling around this day. We enjoyed the hotel for a while and then walked to Tobacco Bay Beach for lunch. This is a cute little cover near the St. Regis. I was pretty excited for my husband to snorkel for the first time. He had tried it in Mexico before but didn’t like it. I knew it would be different in these shallow and clear waters. I was right. He loved it. The snorkeling here was great. After snorkeling we enjoyed some Swizzles and their Wahoo nuggets. It was quiet when we were here, but Tobacco Bay often has live music and bon fires. Back to the hotel we went to get ready for dinner. We took a cab to the town of Hamilton for dinner at the 1609 at the Hamilton Princess Hotel. The views overlooked the marina and the food was delicious. This was a lively and fun place to eat. After dinner, we walked over to the Birdcage. This was an adorable little rooftop cocktail bar. I highly recommend stopping here for a drink if you are in town.

Day 4

Off the beaten path beach exploration

On our last day, we decided to hear to Cooper’s Island Nature Preserve. This is definitely off the beaten path.. and so worth the effort. Our cab driver driver dropped us off at the beginning of a trail. We headed out, hoping not to get lost. We followed along cliffs, and picture perfect beaches, and even climbed a lighthouse. Inside the lighthouse there were signs giving the history of the area, which had been occupied by the military and NASA until 1995. After our hike, we decided on a beach to sit at. We snorkeled, had snacks, and enjoyed this little slice of heaven. This was one of our favorite things we did all week. We finally had a day without rain, and this was the best way to enjoy it. Thankfully, we took the number for the cab company, because this spot is not exactly teeming with people looking to pick you up. I highly recommend bringing a picnic and exploring this area. Do not expect restrooms, chairs, or food.

We were sad to leave this amazing island, but will definitely be back. There is so much more to see. I can’t wait until next time.
